Green Stuff

The famous green syrup is used far and wide. It assists horses that may have had a tickle in the throat or need to clear the wind or head.

Green Stuff is widely used by horse people to assist with some coughs, and to clear the airways of the head before a gallop. It is based on potassium iodide (KI) and essential natural oils.

Well known to many in the horse industry, the original proprietor of “Healthy Horses – The Equine Chemist Shop”, John Wedmaier tried for two years before he could overcome the biggest hurdle that was to successfully get potassium iodide into solution. To this day every batch is made ‘in-house’, and takes about 24 hours to ‘brew’, and the secret is closely guarded.

Iodine is one of the most important ‘micro’ elements needed for humans or horses to remain healthy, as well as being an exceptional antiseptic. In fact for humans, in countries where nuclear attack is likely, potassium iodide is kept in most medicine cabinets, as the thyroid gland, which produces vital hormones, is one of the first parts of the body to suffer from nuclear radiation. Potassium iodide is a salt of stable iodine, and to this day iodine plays a major role as a disinfectant, particularly before major surgery. The essential oils settle on the stomach contents, using the warmth to vaporise and quickly rise back into the sinuses. For this reason many trainers use the product before a gallop as it may help clear the airways, and unlike camphor based products, it does not contravene the Rules of Racing.

JJW3 Salts Mix + Calcium

Tonnes of this adaptable electrolyte mix are used annually in most hot and/ or humid areas of Northern NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

JW3 also contains calcium, a mineral which is lost in sweat and acts as an electrolyte in parts of a horse's body. JW3 does not contain bicarbonate of soda. JW3 can be used in the feed; water; or by nasal stomach tube under supervision of a veterinary surgeon. (There is no need to have two salt mixes. To use as an alkaline mix, just add bicarb).

An excellent nasal gastro mix for use by your veterinarian, after heavy exercise, is 220grams JW3 plus 30- 40 grams bicarb in three (3) Litres of water. It is essential that a large quantity of fresh drinking water is available

Custom Optivite Endurance: Arguably the best vitamin and mineral supplement on the market. Makes the coat shine because horses and dogs alike just do so well on this balanced mix. Only costs around 72 cents per day for a 500kg horse.

Cal Uptake

A scientific answer to calcium depletion caused by an oxalic acid in lush tropical grasses

BIGHEAD is the common name for this condition, which may also be caused by phytates in wheat derived products such as bran and pollard.

Quite simply, a calcium/phosphorus mix is not enough to fix the problem, especially horses grazing on buffel grass. When oxalic acid is present in the bloodstream of a horse, put simply, it ties up the molecules of calcium that are needed for many bodily functions: the heart, muscular and nervous system s all require calcium to operate normally.

Cal Uptake is based on cholicalciferol (also known as Vitamin D), and is processed in the liver and kidneys.

Cal Uptake comes in an easy to use, graduated syringe.

For Cal Uptake to be effective, it should be used with a calcium-phosphorus supplement in powder or block form.
